Group Project?

Great idea, although in not ...quite in league with some of the MEs here, i think that i can benefit much from something of this type. Now the question is, what is the project? 8-)

We could do a jitter test!

Every ME in here could burn a Redbook Audio master and then Michael could tjeck them on his Clover? -If you are up to this Michael?



Or maybe we could get a CD plant to test our Audio Masters?

It would be nice to be able to se on a paper how well ones drive/media performed?

We could also do an "Analog chain greatest hits"!!



Every ME in hear should play the same 3-5 different tracks/songs over their analog chain and record it.

Then We could all hear how different our ADDA sound like!

I'm also sure that the ADDA sounds different with different operating voltages and different AC supplys.



I would sure like to hear how it sounds in USA with prism, Lavry etc....

And I'm sure that some of you would find it interesting to hear an Audio Note DAC5 in operation.

Good ideas, what about somehting that everyone would find a great challange, how about everyone takes a clip, that obviously has some error, and gives their own shot at mastering, then everyone posts their master and people can hear and compare, just an idea. 8-)

ammitsbøl and i are doing a jitter test very soon.... we're burning 10 cd's from the same file on a batch of hhb .... on three different burners and different speeds....



we'll send them to a cd plant in germany that on of my friends work at..... and he'll test for jitter



next thing will be testing different media on the same burner...



i'm very curious to see the results

I'm all for a project. But dither? Come on guys we can do something more fun than that! How about whomever wants to submit tracks can. We moderaters pick one each. Master it. Then we compile them on a CD with before and after of each track.

I'm doing this project because I find it very important to know what compromises our sound and how to get rid of it.



In my world, electronic and mastering runs hand in hand. Afterall I spent the last 4 days on modding my Lynx AES16 card.

And I'm so glad i did, it really paid off with the best performence I've heard from any soundcard ever!!



But your idea is very fun!!

This is really interesting, I think it is a terrific idea ! 8-) We can fill out something like a "report" or score of each tracks something like :



ex :

Overall =9/10 or Ranking = 2nd of the ten (hey, that is pretty good)

Stereo image = Very poor (is this mono ?) :(

Freq balance =

Musicality =



etc...



or something similar. And the one who got more positive votes could explain what he/she did in more details.



This could be fun, a good and concrete way to share ideas and approaches. This is only a suggestion.

i really don't like joe's idea, it limits the fun to only the moderators, lets find an idea that EVERYONE can participate in, or make me a moderator. 8-)

Michael, what you said right there is a PERFECT idea, we don't reveal who did what and each person reviews someone's work, like a blind test, and we never find out who did what but we get to see each others work and each person is assigned a review, and throught these reviews we will get to learn more about how each individual can benefit, everyone who agrees with this plan, please post 8-)



(you also have to find a place to post all of these masters, and thats a hell of alot of masters, if someone has a server with tremendous bandwidth and storage capacity, please say so)

Of course there are fees but it is adequate (I have been using it myself). Maybe someone here has a server with enough space ?! That would be better and much simpler. Anyone ?

I'm very interested but unequivocally a novice. If you're all willing to put up with an amateur, I think it would be an incredible learning experience.

I just started posting here. Looks like some good folks I don't know & quite a few from other boards.



The project from Brad Blackwoods board was great.

I missed the first one but got into the second one. The funny thing is when i got the 2 cd's to listen to (23 versions of the same tune!)I taged brads work right away(keep in mind I never heard his work before, but it sounded the best). & till this day he hasn't fessed up to what he did.

It was a great learning experience not so much a competition but a studyin why & how....not so much who.



The song choise was interesting. a modern hard rock band recorded on pro tools & mixed on ssl console. It was well recorded but the bass was a bit mushy & the hi's were abit harsh. It was great example of how things sound a bit generic now adays with a few issues to fix.

I'd love to be part of this & if you need help I'm in town too.

Depends who will ship the cd's. We could all send the $$ via Paypal to the sender's account (cd + package + shipping cost) before or during the project. Or we can even pay before and that will state that we are officially part of the Projek Group Member.

Dither, Jitter. I know the difference. It's just that there both so boring it's easy to get them confused!! :twisted:



The one reason I like different songs for each moderator is to keep it more fun and less of a competition.



And we did that once before.

I agree that opening it up to everyone to try/do is a better idea. So whatever you guys want to do I up for.
