If I understand you correctly, you may want to index the CD.
Unfortunantly, CD index is not supported by the modern machines as it was from 1985 through 1991.

If you want to index certain programs to tracks, a wave editor will allow you (like cool edit or Sound Forge) to create separate files for each portion and do fade ins and outs. The you can arrange said files in numerical form in your folders to make the burn sequenced as you like.

The indexing feature I used in mastering 17 years ago with a CD would allow you to have up to 22 sub intros within a track and you could index the entire track via place mats within itself.

My Yamaha and Toshiba old school players recognize the indexing of tracks but nothing past 1993 would do it since it became a feature that was not realized.

Best bet is to use a wave editor and master the edits per how you want your CD to come out. Nero does this as well as rox.

If you need the project edited (by a pro) and corrected via a sheet to time code and not sure how to pull this off, I can provide an FTP if you provide a time chart and I can do all the programming for you at no charge in a day and send you the CD. If you want audio enhancement on the cd, that is for you to provide. That is when I start plowing my trade is enhancement and leveling.

I think what you want to do is have the applause in the pre-gap. To do this you would place the 0 PQ flag at the end of the track before the applause and the 1PQ flag at the start of the poem.

So the track would end. The player would then hit the 0PQ flag and count backwards while playing the applause until the 1PQ flag is hit. It would then start counting forward.

So if you play through the disc there is no silence but if you located to the beginning of a track it would get you to the start of the poetry piece. If you programed the CD player to play a single track it would stop at the 0PQ flag and cut off the applause.

A word of warning. different CD mechanisms have different ramp up times for start track flags. It is impossible to have all CD players start in exaxctly the same place. I err on the side of too early. A SADiE system defaults to an offset of 12 CD frames (75 frames/sec). This is a good place to start.

I don't know Roxio but if it's a full function PQ editor it should be possible.

Paul, I have run into 60 frames and even 45 frams on playback units.

@30FPS, the 2 second standards are not hip.

I put 11 frames (my new standard) before the intended flag for good measure. Like a breath to playing a flute.

Actually, I like to insert a -01 and then the flag.

You have to leave some room or some machines will chop it.

No one bitches about a 1/3 second.

Paul-You are correct that what I want to do is set PQ Flags for start and end points.
In my JAM software I don't see anything that would allow me to do that.
My Peak LE audio editing software lets me place "Markers" and define "Regions" within the tracks.I don't know if that would be it.

I do it by feel when there are discrete tracks

They do when it's a continuous piece like the poetry piece he's describing or a live music album where they want the track to start exactly at the crossfade you spent 15 minutes fine tuning.

The two major differences in CD mechanisms are between Phillips mechanisms and Sony mechanisms.

Ja, and you have to be familiar with each.( Sony and Philips transports)
