Budget Microphone

It depend on the source, the room, the preamp and quality expectation.. To me, both are crap..

I suggest, you rent, borrow or go in a store, anything to try them before you buy...

In that case, you should buy a dynamic mic, like the SM58 or SM57 - They will help because they have better rejection and will grab less of the room and reflections..

Nothing wrong with a 2i2 - they're very popular and rarely do people complain about gain? If it was faulty - that's different.

An sm48 is a good budget mic, similar to the 58 sonically, and right at your price point.
