Hi my friends,

I've put up a new video which I think may benefit RO members.
Let me know what you think of the sound and the production in general. (Trying to get better!) ;)

Don't miss the electric distorted guitar on which mic placement has the biggest impact.

Excellent as always! You certainly are a charming rascal.

The only thing I wish you could have done differently would have been using a guitar amp without the opaque grill. Your point (experiment until you find the sound you want) is still made, but it would have been even better, in my opinion, to see a visual demonstration of the dramatic differences you get as you work the mic from the center of the speaker to the edge at various angles. As you know, a half inch (2cm) makes a world of difference. With a different amp, or the grill removed from the Vox, the novice might get more out of it, but that's me nitpicking.

Got you... I tried to remove it but it's seems to be glued.. in any case I didn't want to force it.. It's true it's a bit sad that we don't see where the cone is.
I glad you enjoyed it anyway !

It's hard to make everything perfect and still deliver in a short period of time. (because you don't want to take a month for something that doesn't pay)..
BTW, I have a lot of time doing them ! ;)

Not sure if it would translate to video, but we use a flashlight to shine into the grill to get the starting point of mic position, which is usually half way between edge and and dust cap.

It's a great idea. Althought, the goal of the video was to make people realise placement mathers and the best way is to do it by ears.
Pointing out starting points wasn't in my plan while filming but I will surely consider it for a future video.
Thanks K
