i have a stagg-pgt70 microphone and i've been recording w/ the microphone boost option on in the advanced volume mixer but the sound doesn't sink into instrumental behind it. what is the problem? it doens't sound like 1 sound, like a song but more like an instrumental w/ a voice over. and if i take off the microphone boost option the volume on the mic is too low but i do think it does sound better this way. i am not using an audio interface so can this be the problem? I'm hooking the mic w/ phatom power directly to the mic jack on the comp. can someone help me

and what is a compressor? where do i get? and is it aprogram or an external unit?
