Hi Jon,
I'm about there. I tried a 51 briefly in Nashville a few weeks ago. It sounded quite nice but I really didn't get to put it through the paces especially from a headroom point of view. The pres and eq were really quite sweet. I probably will go this route. It seems to be a good bang for the buck. I was just glad to get back to a comsole instead of a mouse! I was trying to see if anyone had any further experience with the thing before
going forward. I guess there is only a few dozen around. The Supertrue is quite nice from what I could tell.
I did get to go back in the warehouse and feast my eyes and hands on a brand new 72 input 9098I. Wow! What a board. It requires 12 big power supplies to operate the damn thing and it's built like a tank.
How's the 9000??? I bet you are digging it. Did you hear the S3A'S yet?
I'm actually doing a mix on one coming up this week. I'll let you know. I'm also considering buying one. I do know that in its design, the Amek guys made headroom their first consideration(after so many complaints about the lack of headroom in the Big). So they claim it has lots of headroom(with 108 inputs hitting the bus it better!!). The only thing that turned me off a little is the build quality(a little flimsy for $60,000) and I know its because they used the frame from the Big, but still...$60,000, they could have built it a little sturdier. But I guess with 44 Neve pre's(I was also told that they are the pre's from the 9098) and total reset(my favorite feature from digital boards) you can't complain too much. Surround ready and by the way Jules, the dynamics option is standard. Its a scaled down version from the 9098I)as well as the EQ's).
I'm installing a Media 51 next week! The studio I work for has just purchased one and so I'm up to my ears in pinout diagrams and schematics at the moment.
