I was thinking about picking one of these up soon, and wanted your take on how it sounds on rock guitars and male vocals? I don't know to much about API stuff so it would be interesting to hear your input. Thanks
It uses the standard API mic pre so everyone that has ever hear or used an API mic pre has heard it. The only question is the A/D part. And knowing that API doesn't do stuff half assed, I would expect it to be top notch and as good as anyone would ever need for quality A/D conversion.
its a nice unit. i purchased a month or two ago and its seen use on a number of sources. it will certainly shine on rock guitars and male vox, the two main uses you mentioned. as mentioned, the pre's are the 312, that are also found in the 3124+ box. they are a little improved, feature wise, adding the 2:1 switch to run more color through the pre's without driving them to distortion. the a/d section isn't bad - an improvement in clock and conversion over say a digi002.
