Cool, I know Nathan at Atlas well but i did not buy mine from there, i bought it used in mint shape, i own everything from API, Avedis, OSA, Eisen, John Hardy, Studer etc, the Elixir is the best transparent preamps on the market, you can also get the job done with it when others fail to deliver, my favorite is the DI, try recording a bass guitar through the buzz, in return you will get the best round smooth sound out there with no overs, it simply rounds out like it been mastered keeping every detail note with no smear, the elixir is also great with any vocal, a great voice over pre as well, not to mention that it is a very high gain pre with no noise to be heard, unless the noise is from your source. Everyone should own one buzz preamp, i have not been able to afford their compressors yet but i have read great things about them. As you can see i use 95 percent 500 series gear.

I've had first hand experience with Buzz Audio - specifically their MA2.2Tx (their high-end mic pre). It is indeed one of the finest mic preamps I've ever used. If I remember right, my only gripes with it were the fact that the rack ears were a tad flimsy (bendable by finger) and the non-US convention of switching down to power on and up to power off.

As far as sound is concerned, it truly was (is) one of the finest preamps I've ever heard or used. I don't know if the elixir allows you to take outputs from the transformer and transformerless outputs or not, but this made the unit one of the more flexible I've ever used.

Did I mention it sounded great? I used it alongside my Millennias and was left drooling for it in the end. It had the clarity of the Millennia but the sweetness of the Grace without sacrificing eithers' strong points. And transients...not an issue - one of the fastest preamps I've ever heard.

Again, I'm not intimately familiar with their elixir, but I'd be anxious to try it for sure!

Cheers-
Jeremy
