My friend is trying to get into a bit of recording with different tracks but was interested in a good free recording software. I figured you guys would know best as I don't know what to recommend.
Hey, Kristal seems a nice software! Matthias, who build it, cooperated with Presonus on their Studio one DAW and his company Kristal 2 was taken over by Presonus in 2009.
It reminds me a lot of Cubase, at least , the funktions are similar. Pitty that is can't do MIDI...
In Win7 you probably must start it on XP sp2 compatibillity mode.
I'd definitely go with Reaper. There isn't anything else out there that can touch it. I'm a huge fan of Ableton so I loved using the bundled low end versions of Live for a while.
