I'm a newbie here. great forum by the way. I'm learning the art of mixing "inside the box"( inside of the software). I use both pro tools and sonar. I record straight into PreSonus firepod which has nice pres. I was disappointed with my early test mixes. I can't get vocals to sit in well with the track...any tips anyone?

try over compressing the vocal and then bring up the backing tra
try over compressing the vocal and then bring up the backing track around that.
if that brings some success then you need to look to how you have recorded the vocal and perhas the use of some gentle compression during the tracking.
Try a couple of light compressions rather than one big compress.
A bus comp on the master may also bring a little joy.
