Hi there new to the forum and was hoping to find a little help,
I'm looking at buying a used Groove Tubes sm5 off a buddy of mine. He let me borrow it first to check it out and it's got a noise problem. The mike sounds fine but has a pretty low frequency noise pop type of thing that comes in every few seconds.

Does anyone have any ideas as to where this noise is coming from and whether it's something thats easily fixable?

Well, it's a tube. Assuming it's a tube? How long have you let it warmup? 2-3 hours is not unusual before any tube equipment warms up & simmers down. There could also be a electrolytic filter capacitor which have a tendency to age resulting in these types of noises. That could come from the tube power supply or internally in the microphone. But power supply issues are frequent issues.

One more thing - I've tested two other condenser mics and they don't have this noise so it's definitely the mic and not the downstream devices.
