Hey guys, I'm new to this forum... but I am in DESPERATE need of some help. I've been given a live CD project to mix and edit. I'm used to using Logic Audio on a PC... but this project required that I finally break down and get a mac (it was recorded in Pro Tools, audio files in mac format).
So I'm using a brand spanking new Powerbook G4... I've got a Digidesign MBOX (the original)... Pro Tools LE 7.0, and two Mackie HR824s.
I've had some minor variance (translation or whatever you want to call it) in the past... but what I'm experiencing with this mix is just unreal (not to mention EXTREMELY frustrating).
Any tips for getting a fairly CONSISTANT mix from source to source would be GREATLY appreciated.
Also, is this just a simple "Mastering" issue? Should I just get best mix I can out of the Mackies, forget about trying to mix for any other sources, and leave that to the mastering engineer?

It's not easy to help you with a mix that I can't listen to. The best thing I can tell you is to buy a book and follow the general rools. You are going to find tips about panning, compression, effects, but everything in a very wide general rule. Nothing specific for YOUR mix. Get together with somebody who tried before or a friend who is used to music and can tell you what he thinks about what you do with the mix, 4 ears are better than 2.
Also: the best mix starts from the best sounds on tape. If you recorded this concert in a noisy room, with a lot of waves clashing with each other, and using bad mics (I'm picturing the worst scenario) it will be impossible for you to get a good mix (and the mastering engineer will start crying...
