hello all,
i'm new to this site but looks good so far. anyways, i'm a recording engineer and have been for over 20 years. have just purchased my first studio in midtown manhattan :) it's a nice 24 track analog room with a good amount of vintage gear, have also added in a Pro Tools HD II system. just trying to get the word out.

thank you for the welcome. finally a chat site for engineers.... you don't know how long i've searched for one. i just put in a protools HD II system, now i guess i should learn how to use it....lol. i'm an old analog hound and will never give it up but i do feel that used properly they can indeed compliment each other. i have 12 channels of 1066's for front end and a pretty clean analog board so i should be ok. hey it's not the tools it's the carpenter.... right?

Hello to you. This is my first post on this site. I am a cmposer, keyboardist, producer and engineer-in-training and, I am also an attorney. My office is not located all that far from your stuio. I am at 277 Broadway. We have two entities there: Monaco Entertainment and Jerrold Weinstein & Associates, P.C.

I am currently working on a project with a well known jazz saxophonist whose name I would rather not mention at the time. Nevertheless, I have been looking at studios since, if all goes well, we may need to do some additional tracks. The main necessity - a geat piano.

Anyway, as a point of interest to a new studio owner, last week I was at the "official" grand opening of Harmolodic Studio. This is the studio owned by Ornette Coleman. Mr. Coleman was there as was Stanley Crouch, Phillip Shap, CBS news anchor Robin (?), and many from the Harlem Chamber of Commerce. They are billing the studio as a "World Class Facility" which is now being run in partnership with the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone" Their goal is to attract some of the big name stars frm midtown to uptown.

Now, for the point of this little diatribe. I am at a loss to understand how a studio can bill itself as "World Class" (particularly one with the obivious geographical and proprietary connection to jazz music) when that studio does not have a piano. I found this to be disturbingly odd and shortsighted of those looking for the big bucks clients.

What do you think?
