No offense, but if you have to ask that kind of question about effects then what are you doing producing an album? That's like having to ask how to build an engine so you can start a car company.

All the effects you listed might be used and they could go in any order depending on the desired outcome. Listen to about a thousand popular and unpopular recordings and get some specific ideas. Then come and ask things like "How do I get that tambourine sound on this recording."

If you're going to take a shot at producing a recording for a group a really decent low budget tool would be something in the MX series from Lexicon, starting with the MX300. Lexicon has fantastic effects across the board but unlike most Lexicon boxes the MX300 (and up) include Compression and Dynamics effects which is a huge bonus.

Check this link: [[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.sweetwat…"]Lexicon MX300 | Sweetwater.com[/]="http://www.sweetwat…"]Lexicon MX300 | Sweetwater.com[/]

If your budget is higher, then that opens the door to more options. But again, the MX300 isn't a bad place to start.

Gear

Hey man,

If you visit this website - http://www.EarsandGears.com

you will find a blog dedicated to explaining the workings of all the gear used to record music as well as how to use it.

The last posting talks a bit about reverb and signal routing. If you want to dive deeper there are some articles that go a little more in depth (but always easy to understand).

There are segments about to be posted within the next few days detailing almost exactly what you are talking about - compressors, gates, etc. so keep checking this blog and hope it helps answer some of your questions!
