I've got an opportunity to pick up a M5000 for a great price. We're Pro Tools TDM with no decent outboard gear. Would this unit suffice as the one "really good" dedicated reverb box? Anyone have one? Craig

Yes!

Good idea!!!

Make sure it is a 24 bit model (call TC to find out how?)

Bag it!

look for

AES i/o

How many 'engines' does it have? (many = good)

Does it have the Mastering software installed? (= eq's + seperate multiband compression - each needing an engine)

With multiple engines, you could use it for seperate reverbs (one per engine) and it's well liked multiband compression.. - All at the same time - Great tool to hang off an 888/16 or 888/24 interface.

The M5000 is dope, as the kids say these days. These boxes were expensive as hell when they 1st came out, so if you can hook up a good deal, I'd highly sugest it.
Some of my favorite presets are:
480Hall
5000plate
CDmaster
The Algorithms in "Delay 1" are similar to the 2290. "Delay 2" are similar to the TC1210 (which I'm a big fan of). The "Reverb 3" bank has some on the densest reverb tales I have ever heard on a digital reverb. The "Phazer" on this box sounds killer on Hats) similar to the TCXII pedal in stereo). The C.O.R.E. bank is also really good for drum verbs that you don't want to go ape shit with.
There are several options you can get on this box like, an ATAC remote (kinda like a larc), 2 or 4 engines, the ADA 24/96 card for higher sampling rates), and Simm ram (for up to 390 sec of sampling).
I fell in love with this box during a long run in an AMS/Neve Capricorn room in LA.

Thanks for all the reply's.We bought it. It's a "fully blown" M5000 with remote and all 4 engines. only thing missing was the remote cable which TC is sending out tomorrow. Got the manual in my reading room next inline behind the USD,PT5.1, Masterlink, control 24, BIKE mag, three back issues of mix, and the newest IKEA catalogue(the wifes)

Any one used this box for mastering?

I used the TC M5000 for some budget style mastering for a few years and thought it was great. But then I got to use a TC DBmax and loved the power and flexability so much more that I had to have one. Much easier to use and the ability to choose between one and five band compression/limiting makes a world of difference. The broadcast filters also give you a good sense of what your material will sound like on CD, TV/DTV and AM/FM radio.
