Yes and no. Is it exactly like a 1073? Electronically no. Does it sound like a 1073? I won't even go there because it's a big subject of debate on the web. But does that mean that the preamps aren't excellent sounding and flexible? They are. I've got a 473 in my studio (see link below), primary use is drums and bass, but has worked well on everything else also (I'm just picky, so I get to pick from a lot of different choices of preamps to fit exactly what I need, but could get by with just a few different preamps if need be).

However, the Vintech is an AWESOME pre at a damned affordable price. It's also got some great -unique- sounds of its own.
