Hi!
I am thinking of upgrading the front end and am considering new converters. So far I have had creamware Audiobahn A8 (sold it) and the Tascam US-428 internal ones which were by frontier. I don`t like them anymore.
Now, what piece of gear would help me give that sparkle?
Is the mindprint DI-Box any good? Is getting something definetly than the gear I now have better for up to 500$ possible?
Cheers,
Stefan

I've been told that the Prism and Cranesong HEDD 192 are great converters. I'll let you know after I get this HEDD 192 hooked up. I may be doing a converter shootout with Lucid, Cranesong HEDD 192, RME, Apogee, PTHD 96 and 192 this month or first of March. I'll post the results when it happens.

I sure can't wait to hear what you find. I never thought I'd be considering TP, but if the converters really are the cream at that price I may need too...
For the original poster: You'll find RME to be by far the most affordable of these, and they sound great, tons of definition and spatial image etc. Especially at 96khz. I'm using them. More than $500, but not nearly as steep as the other worthies. I need a few more channels and have a bigger budget so I'm shopping the spendier stuff... but no Prisms I'm afraid!

Ted,
The Spider is all that & a bag of chips. It actually has 5 times the A/D channels (there's A/D with a pre-converter insert on the mix bus) and the pre-amps are at every bit as good as the Flamingo (if not better) - though I do sometimes miss the "Iron" switch. If only David had put in a M/S decoder... :D

I'll pitch the Lucid AD9624, probably the best price/performance deal around, but please do a search in previous threads. This has been debated over and over already... :w:
