I have an old MX-5050 8sHD 1/2" 8 track and was wondering about redoing the electronics to improve it. I've got the full schematics for the unit, and it's the earlier modular two-piece unit with the record/reproduce electronics in pairs in a seperate rack from the transport, so it'll be easy to access. I should just get out a test tone generator and scope and see what needs fixing (I'm thinking a recap is in order, as it is about 20 years old), but I was wondering whether anyone else had redone these suckers and had tips. If not, I'll see what I can offer whenever I get around to it.
