Hello all! I am in the market for a computer to record with. Thus far, my best option for my price range is a 17" iMac with 2 gb RAM and the intel 2ghz duo core 2 processor. My question is if anyone knows where i can find info on what kinds of interfaces will record directly into GarageBand and allow multitrack manipulation. It seems like the recording industry is riddled with proprietary technology where certain interfaces work with very specific programs. If anyone has a link, or knows off the top of their head what will work with it, I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks!

Apple has great support and discussion groups for all of their software.

Without a knowing your needs/wants and budget it's hard to point out specific products. I also am not aware of any list of compatable products with Garageband. I also have never done a cool, refreshing Google search on the topic either.
Basically, you are going to want to go with a firewire device. Forget USB. There are all sorts of them out there. Use the search function here (the topic seems to come up a number of times per week). Find a product that you are interested in and then ask around about it.
This is a good place to start.

I use a Presonus Firepod that works really well with Garageband. The only drawback to this product is Garageband does not take advantage of it's routing capabilities.
Good luck.
