Fletcher, or any one.
How are you guys or what are you guys using to balance the RNC I/O. I have a tt bay and everything is +4 I was wondering what an easy way to do this would be. I'm looking to get 2 racked from Mercenary. Thanks
I don't know of anyone actually trying to balance the RNC through a modification of some sort. I haven't met anyone with an issue for it either as long as the cable runs are short. Good Luck.
Thanks, I wasn't really looking for a modification just some sort of +4 to -10 box so I can get in and out of my patch bay. I my just build a box with Jensens or opamps. I know there are cheaper boxes but I didn't know if they would suck and mess with my audio path.
Well, it already operates at +4...unbalanced and
-10 are not the same thing. A unit can operate at +4 and be unbalanced at the same time (hence the RNC).
so a definite buy unless i'm buying a compressor thats $2000 and up? or are there other compressors around that price that are good or maybe be better for diff applications? like vocals percussion etc.....
I've been using 2 RNC's for the 8 months or so and agree that it's very transparent. So if you're looking for compression as an effect it might not fit the bill, but for $200 - you can't go wrong.
If being used in Super Nice mode it seems you need to use the shortest attack/release times for it to catch transients.
What Nathan said about them is spot on...nothing to add there. However, you actually can use the RNC as an envelop changing "effect" compressor. Leave it out of 'super nice mode' (would that be 'regular nice mode'? I dunno), and just get into it with the attack and release knobs.
If you work at it a bit, you can get that thing to gasp, pump, and wheeze like a 2 pack a day smoker running a marathon.
As for the RNMP working as a 'balance box' for the RNC...that is something that has been discussed, we'll see when (if) the RNMP is ever finished if it'll actually happen.

The NV gives you transformer coupled class A
balancing too.
I can vouch for this setup - sounds great! I don't usually compress to disk/tape - but when I need to tame a vocal, this does the trick. Both of my RNC's live next to the MP-2NV.
I just talked to the folks at FMR and they are coming out with an Enhanced version of the RNC (after 1st of the year) which will be ballanced and have a 3rd mode (optical). Those guys are fricking amazing.

i can attest to this. i use it in my guitar setup, before going into a tech21 trademark 60, and it gives me all that pump, gasp, & glass without all the horrible artifacts you get from traditional guitar-pedal compressors. i tell ya, my strat deluxe plus with lace holy grails is an absolute thing of singing beauty.

The RNC is extremely clean, it's almost as if it isn't there when compression is applied. So to answer your question, yes.

It's definitely in my "best buy" category.
