Im looking for suggestions for mixing fretless electric ( active EMG's ) in a mostly acoustic latin jazz mix. I have the bass DI through a good tube unit into a decent converter etc etc. I need to keep it DI only so Micing the speaker isn't an option. The Bass sounds good when solo'd but just doesnt pop in the mix. Ive tried compression but Im not sure what settings to use and my experiments havent been getting us closer to the sound we want. Im trying to get as close to an acoustic or baby bass sound as possible and yes I know to get that sound you need those instruments but I hear recordings using electric bass that seem to capture that type of flavor using elecric bass. Any suggestions about EQ Comp effects or whatever will be much appreciated.

Im going direct because were in a small room and we want to keep the bass bleed out of the conga mic. for this project the conga sound is part of the melody but is in the spectrum of bass guitar. the idea was to get the bass to sound as acoustic as possible so that the bass and congas sound like thier in the same family sort of . when we miked the bass the bleed between the bass and conga made everything sound like mush. i hadnt thought of reamping, thanks ill give that a try. any suggestions for setting up a compressor on the bass? Im trying to bring out the pluck. Im using a 166. I also have a optical unit but we were using that just for limiting. thanks for your responses, rrrrrrr
