Best Headphones, Monitors, Power Amps for home studio?

Just curious if anyone could give me some insight on the best bang for your buck studio monitors and headphones. For monitoring, I've read tons about stuff like the Mackie HR624/824 setup...and lately my interest has been aimed at something like the Yamaha MSP5's. Yes? No?

As well, does getting active vs passive make much of a difference apart from preference? Do internal speaker amps hold out as well as an external power amp?...any advice on power amps (my latest interest has been something like the Hafler P3000).

Headphones...I've heard much about the Sennheiser HD 280, but they seem a little steep to be buying more than one pair (i.e. for tracking)...any experience with the MoreMe headphones I've been seeing around every now and then? They seem dirt cheap and built like tanks. What about something like the Nady QH560...they're open back, but for any other reasons not related to use while recording, would they be alright? Musician's Friend has em on cheap.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Ouch K55's. They are the most uncomfortable cans I've ever worn.

I assume that the headphones are for monitoring during tracking and not as any kind of reference for mix. Look into the Sony MDR series. Very loud, kinda bright, will last forever and relatively cheap.

Speakers are such a personal choice imho. They are a bit like shoes, to each there own. The most important thing with monitors is that they don't fatigue your ears, you can understand how things transfer from them to other systems and their interaction with your control room.

anyone willing to say anything about the moreme's? i'd like get 3 or 4 pairs of headphones, and at around 200 bucks a pop for some of the suggested ones...doesn't entice me too much...especially when it's only for tracking, not any kind of mastering/mixing/etc. (thats where the monitors i've yet to get as well come into play :wink: )

i have several pairs of the more me headpohones. i track live so i need multiple pairs for depending on the size of the group. the more me phones work fine. they get plenty loud (105db i think). Most of the time many of the tracks i record are scratch and will be overdubed later. I would opt for better phones in that situation(overdubing) as well as for the engineer. They are fairly confortable, not like the sony's or sennheisers, but buying multiple pairs of these for tracking bands will cost you and if they get broken you out $100+. so with that being said: scratch tracks-yes, overdubs-no, tracking engineer-no. if you have the choice. Hope this helps
