Does a 1948 Webster Wire Recorder count as an instrument?

Gone but not forgotten :). Met it's demise in the UK about 9 years ago due to lack of humidity. Late 1800s Karl Kutschera baby grand, sounded glorious.

I have all these except the white Ibanez still, it had a roland midi compatible pickup on it. The red one on lounge is a custom Carvin I had made for me for my 50th. Sweetwater pictures are my actual guitars I bought, they send you their pics, and since they are good pics.. well :).

Wish I had kept this one now.. I do have a nice 70s Ovation Baladeer now though too.

I love the finish on the SG...makes my '71 look ordinary...

I was stunned by how it is when it turned up. Picture is great, in life it's even more amazing. Sounds great too :). I actually bought the 2 (Gibsons) at the same time for a criminal price :D.

Thats funny you should say that, when I bought my SG I also bought my Les Paul flametop at the same time...I paid a deposit on the SG for what could only be called a steal, then the guy I know quite well from this hidden little guitar shop in the back streets of Sydney says " I see you were looking at the Les Paul flametop too, I would have let that go for a really good price too...."

When he told me how much I could have it for I nearly fell over and could not get my wallet out of my pocket quick enough to give him a deposit on that as well.

He must have been having a really quiet month for the price I got them both for.

The other guitarist in the band I was with offered me double what I paid for the SG plus his '93 Les Paul Studio the first time he saw /played it so I knew I was onto a good thing. Even for a 44 year old guitar it sounds amazing and I cannot see myself ever parting with it. It eats other guitars for breakfast

@Sean G I lived in Randwick in 1988, down at Coogee was a shop that never seemed to have many customers, he had a lot of drool worthy guitars. I had an Ibanez Artist series at the time, he put a Seymour Duncan of some sort in that, double coil. I remember playing that for guys later on, was a big sustaining beast. I remember getting around near inner Sydney and out on Parramatta Rd years ago, and finding little back street shops. And of course Palings and can't remember other one were huge in the 70s and 80s in central Sydney.

My SG was originally from Palings, when I got purchased it, it came with the original Gibson case and paperwork from '71.

The guitar shop you are referring to would be Sunburst Music on Coogee Bay Rd, he was there for ages, and in the early '70's still had a '58 Les Paul in the window...Unbelievable, I know, but true, I think the old bloke who owned it is dead now and somebody else is there today.

I used to see him at auctions in the mid to late 80's bidding on guitars.



I am in Newtown, there is a small guitar shop dowen the St Peters end of King St where a few good guitars come in every now and then.

Where I bought my SG & Les Paul from is on Regent St, Redfern.

Jacksons' Rare Guitars on Parramatta Rd is now gone, before closing he had a '58 Les Paul sunburst finish he was advertising for $750k.

Something sus went on there in the end, over the course of a weekend the hoardings went up on the front windows, signs came down and the place was cleaned out (the guitars were so rare, no-one could find them after that...)

Some people who had guitars in there on consignment looked to have lost them until it was finally sorted out with a big shitfight with the administrators.



Sydney had a bustling live music scene back then too, you could see Aussie bands like the Cold Chisel, The Angels, Midnight Oil, Spy vs Spy & The Divinyls at places like Selenas, The Annandale, The Hopetoun or Kinselas for like $5 - $10 bucks. Even large international touring acts would do supporting shows in the pubs or places like the Enmore Theatre. They were the glory days of Aussie Rock and the live music scene here.

Since they introduced poker machines (slot machines) into the pubs in the late 80s' the publicans didn't need bands to bring in the crowds and the music scene here started to die a slow death. Only now are venues starting to see the benefit of having live music and things are a little better, but they will never be like it was in the 80s' when we were spoiled for choice.

More of my current crop of guitars I have used in regular gigs. Taylor 413 CE LTD. New Gibson and the 12 string Ovation are my main goto gig guitars.

Too many guitars in this world to keep just one or two around. Fave is the 85 reissue of "The Dot", Gibson's first reissue, with t original Shaws intact. The 2003 "Historic Reissue" ES-345 is right up there with me, too. Other players are the (2) 80s MIJ Strats, the pink paisely "twins" (also MIJ, from the 90s); the '98 McCarty HBII, a '96 LP Standard in rose red sparkle made in Memphis, and a '90s Hofner Nightingale Special

A few of my faves....96 PRS Custom 24 in dark green metalflake.........95LP Standard from the Memphis Custom Shop, red metal flake...

But my most favorite is the '85 The Dot reissue made in Kalamazoo. It still has the original Shaws and sings like a bird.
