Ya know that feeling when everything in a song comes together? It's awesome! It is why we do all this! Right?

Tonight I remixed a song that I have been working on for a few weeks. It just finally clicked! I actually hadn't listened to it since the end of January, so I got to open it up with a fresh set of ears tonight. This song has really been kicking my butt, so I just dropped it for few weeks...I was really frustrated with it, but I knew it was a great song.

Tonight, I decided to just start from scratch. Removed all the plugins basically re-zeroed all the faders...and gave it a whirl! I added one small guitar part, but basically the tracks were all the same ones that I worked with 2 weeks ago, just with a fresh outlook! Somehow, it really came together tonight, and everything fell into place.

I am lucky that I have the luxury of working this way, since it is my own stuff, and I am not working on the schedule or deadlines of a client.

I can tell you...I love the Waves pluginsand the UAD Powered plugins..it is just amazing how great my mixes are sounding nowadays. In this particular song, I am working with 2 female vocalists (sisters!), and I was really having a tough time with one of their voices...Really tinny and thin sounding at times, but she can really belt it out. I tried several different reverbs with a bunch of different settings, but I kept getting less than favorable results. I finally hit a home run tonight with the UA RealVerb Pro combined with the Waves Ren. Voice (bascially a combination compressor/limiter). I had really never used the Ren. Voice plugin before, figuring that a "full-featured" compressor would give me so many more options (I use the Waves Ren Comp a lot). Who cares how many knobs it has...it is the sound that matters...right? It's real easy to get caught up in that crap, and forget to listen! The combination of the RealVerb and the Ren Voice was the "magic sauce" that I needed to make it all work for her voice! Pretty cool!

I still need to master this song, but you know how you can tell when it is right in the mix? I will have very little work to do to the master.

It is a great day! :D

Here's my test that I plan on doing with it.
Run Nuendo, Reason and Rebirth all at once,
Loop record in Nuendo while also having the B4, Pro5, Waldorf PPG and whatever else I feel like adding and pile a bunch of Waves plugins and see what happens!!!
Whos posting the polls for how fast it takes for my CPU to melt...woo hoo!!
