Just wondering between Firewire 400 and 800 what most people have connected and currently using and any specific conclusion or opinions on either.
Also like to know if you use your onboard FW connector or if you use a separate PCI or PCIe card slot FW port.
And lastly does anyone know a way to test the speed or determine the speed of the FW connection.
I'm currently using FW400 with my RME FF800 which works fine.
I've checked my Sidspeed registry entry in WinXP SP3 and the value is 0000x2 which is supposedly correct for S400 but not S800.
I've thought about getting a 1394b PCI card for 800 but I'm not sure that will do anything more for me...

The FF800 will work flat out (all 26 channels) using FIreWire 40
The FF800 will work flat out (all 26 channels) using FIreWire 400. You would notice no difference by going to FireWire 800 until you connected more than one FF800 box. Unless you have in mind to do this, save your money and don't upgrade the FireWire interface.
