FireWire for PC?

I am currently considering a new digital interface for recording. I am looking at several different products such as [="http://www.PreSonus.com PreSonus[/]="http://www.PreSonus… PreSonus[/] and [[url=http://="http://www.www.Tasc… Tascam[/]="http://www.www.Tasc… Tascam[/]. The PreSonus unit I am looking at is Firewire based and the Tascam is USB. The PreSonus is nice in that you can keep adding units to increase capabilities. I usually think of Firewire as being Mac based, but I see that they have Firewire cards for PC laptops. Does anyone have any experience using Firewire on a PC, and how well does it work?

I use the firwire cardbus on my pc laptop, both for an interface and harddrive, works fine. As with all computer audio equipment, check for compatibility with your cpu before you buy.

I had a real problem finding a new PC laptop with a motherboard that would accept a FireWire card, so I just picked up a real nice notebook sized laptop. It has 8G memory and a 750 HD running an i5. It works great with my music editing and I will be going for a USB interface.

My firwire works great on my home-made PC. It's not a laptop, though, is that's what you are asking about.

Can you roll your own DAW? It's not that hard anymore. You just need to spec out the parts. I can PM you some recommends if you want. You'll get a vastly superior DAW if you roll your own. Custom made for your exact purposes.
