Not only have I seen it, I have done it many times when bleed is a big issue.
Generally if the mic is way inside the kick I wont do that, but if the mic is outside the kick due to being double headed or just for tone, I'll make a tunnel out of a packing blanket to dry out the kick sound (less room ) and to give it a little more iso from the rest of the kit.
