Its been awhile since I posted here so here goes...

I've known for awhile now that my mixes don't translate well. Usually they sound a bit muffled (lacking upper-mids and highs) when being played on other quality sound systems.

I'm using M-Audio Bx-8a's and the acoustics in my room are pretty lousy (lots of slapback echo). While I am working on upgrading my monitors and acoustics I was wondering about another piece of equipment in my signal path.

Coming out of my EMU 0404 interface is a stereo out that goes to a http://www.PreSonus…"]PreSonus HP4 headphone amp[/]="http://www.PreSonus…"]PreSonus HP4 headphone amp[/]. The HP4 allows me to plugin and control multiple headphones (though its usually just me) AND my monitors. While convenient, I was wondering if this relatively cheap piece of equipment is affecting the quality of my signal path and if so, how significantly.

Thanks for anyone's help!

for all but the very lowest impedance headphones, it should be ok

and by ok I mean operable

you get what you pay for

having said that, colouring in the cue send can be a good thing and can be very personal,
anything that can bring the emotion and feel to an artist while laying a track is a help

many studios have a variety of headphones and amps ... and speakers to create a cue send or choice

I like small power amps and a passive distribution box to create a Headphone send with grunt ... for headroom to burn but
here you have to be careful of volume levels because it can be damaging

The Presonus is cheap and cheerful and would be on the lower side for mW and voltage swing

HOW LOUD DO YOU WANT TO MONITOR ?

Hehe yeah I cant monitor too loud and I usually mix with my monitors anyways.

Im thinking the poor acoustical room environment (and maybe the m-audio monitors) are the reason for the poor translations and Im hoping the HP4 is kinda insignificant.

U have an opinion about M-audio BX8a's? Im gonna go check the equipment threads now.
