Has anyone used this combination? I recently purchased a Puretone and am loving it. I play in a jazz funk trio and many of the places I play in are quite small venues. I am not after full out drive but am thinking that the Hot Plate would allow me to get those tubes working a bit harder and get me to the clean but slightly breaking up tone that I am after. My studio is also quite small (single garage size) so it should help with recording too.
I have been reading some great things about the Hot Plate but would be very appreciative of any feedback from the knowledgeable members here.

I have the amp's attenuation set to 50% and it is still really loud! I certainly can't crank the amp to get it breaking up in a small room without doing serious damage to my ears.
Thanks for the tip on the amp's attenuation not being used in conjunction with a Hot Plate as I hadn't thought about that. I think I will contact Hughes and Kettner about this and to also ask about the 16ohm thing as I have two 8ohm cabs wired in series from one of the amp's outputs. I presume a 16ohm Hot Plate would still be the correct device to use.

The built-in attenuation (power-soak) doesn't do the job? Set to 50%, it should be about 12-13W (with the 16 ohm speaker, which is 25W full power)? Can't imagine that being much too loud anywhere.
Seems it should be doing the same basic thing as a Hot Plate. It may sound different just because they are different attenuators with different circuitry, etc.
Not sure it would HURT anything. Just be careful to match the Hot Plate impedance with the amp and speaker, since they come in different impedances. And, I'd run the amp sans internal attenuator, and use the Hot Plate from that. (I wouldn't feel comfortable setting the amp attenuator lower, and then using a Hot Plate). You may even contact H&K and see if they have any thoughts about that, just to be safe.
If all appears OK, haul the amp down to a place that sells the Hot Plate, and see if they'll let you give it a test run. Maybe run it without the Hot Plate and change settings. Then run it with Hot Plate, and see how it sounds.
