INsert effect latency

I am trying to insert a compressor in my Cubase SX 2 program. This is for an acoustic guitar track coming in

however with the effect on i get a delay sound? or maybe this is latency

I have a very robust system

MAC G5 dual 1.8/3 gigs RAM etc

M-AUDIO 410 Firewire sound card that the guitar plugs into

Was wondering if there is a parameter or 2 in cubase/the mac/ or the 410 i need to tweak?

With that kind of machine, there's no way you would have latency

With that kind of machine, there's no way you would have latency problems because of a single plugin - you must have something configured wrong. Are you using the latest ASIO for the 410? Is it selected for use in Cubase? Are your buffers set low enough?

I updated the 410 drivers just a few weeks ago buit will check tonight

What should my buffere settings be at??

I will check them too and get back on tonight
