Hello,

I am researching hardware options before I make a move from a rackmount to a latpop based DAW. My current system has a nice PLEXTOR DVD/CD drive that I use for burning masters and archiving. I could use this drive with an external enclosure and USB connection to my new laptop. Alternatively, the laptop I am leaning toward, the ASUS Z62F, has an internal DVD option. I know the PLEXTOR works well, but I am wondering if anyone has experience with laptop DVD drives, especially on ASUS machines. If the internal drive is just as good, it would be simpler to just use it and not futz around with external enclosures.

Thanks.

Dave

Don't have any experience with the ASUS but I do have a lappy with an internal drive.

With my external audio interface and external hard drive and second monitor and USB mouse and PCMCIA card, it's nice to have the internal drive there. One less thing to connect/unconnect when moving around.

I don't know what brand the drive is, but the lappy is a Dell. I use it for installing programs and burning mixes or making backups. It's worked fine for me for the last few years.
