I don't think the M Box has shipped yet. And it is not a sound card - it is a free standing USB interface. It looks like a very cool unit, but the test will be in the sound quality.

I played around with it at NAMM yesterday. It's a very nice little box that the picture doesn't really do justice. It's heavier than it looks. The picture gives the impression it's like a cable modem box (8 oz or so), whereas handling it it seems to weigh closer to a pound (a couple of Kg?) or so.

It feels more substantial than it looks. I was pleasantly surprised. For laptop users who want to use Protools, it's certainly the only way to go.

It's a $400 entry-level system so of course it won't compete with the sound of Apogee and Neve, but for basic songwriting demos or for editing existing sessions, it should be just fine.

The literature for the M-box says that there is NO latency. How is that possible?

Secondly, there are two analog in's. Can you add to that with the digital in's to get more tracks recorded at once? If so, pretty cool.

Any one know?

I don't know why Digi couldn't deliver something along the lines of a MOTU 828 or 896, instead of a USB monolith without a simple MIDI I/O.
After all, MOTU is on their second 'unit of desire' and have tailored it to use with most software packages.
Right there, Digi would still be one up for all those who just love to use ProTools and don't wish t learn another program. They could just make the breakoutbox compatible with their own software, pretty much how the 001 is now, but w/ firewire.

Certainly, the M-Box will reveal some good sides once it's released, tried and tested, but as of yet, I feel that Digi shot themselves in the foot by releasing a 'what could have been...', as opposed to the anticipated "Digi002 is sublime!" we were all hoping for.
