I've been offered a pair of MK21 capsules for 2 days of work. I would be getting close to $1000 for the work, and could really use the money. But, I'd love to upgrade my mic locker. Opinions on how good a deal this is?
If they're in good shape, I'd definitely go for it. I have a matched pr of CMC621 and they are definitely a go-to mic for LOTS of things. A new pr of caps will run >$1350.
At worst, you could EASILY turn around and sell them for over a grand.
The MK21 also isn't going to have the high frquency lift that the 2H has. I use MK21's whenever I can in spaced pairs for choirs and in a wide ortf-like array for stereo pickup. They are one of my favorite of the Schoeps capsules.
I record almost exclusively high school and college choirs. Most of the high school auditoriums here are multi-use facilities, and are usually really dry.
Usually bad rooms yield a boxy sound with omnis. Adn like Ben said, the 21s are perhaps the msot versatile of all the Schoeps caps. If you don't want the deal, please let me know the details and I'll do it!

That's what I'm thinking, too. What sort of conditions would dictate using the MK21s over the MK2Hs that I currently have?

The obvious answer is MK21 is a wide card, MK2H is omni. So they support different micing techniques. Not an either-or situation.
I have a pair of MK21 and also find them to be a very versatile choice - especially for choral work.

For situations where improved imaging and some rear rejection are desirable, MK21 will do nicely. What sorts of material do you record?
