Since you are requesting 4 moderators, how were you planning to split it up...something like..

A/R
Sales tracking/Playlist varification
Distribution/Marketing
Manufacturing/Artwork
Legal/Copyright

Something like that?

What were your thoughts toward the catagories?

(I will be back to the site at 6AM tomorrow)

Even though I use to involve myself with the above pretty much directly, In the music business 6 months can make a huge difference as their is no actual standard mold that works all the time. Changes in this industry happen overnight and every 6 months...it is a different game...so their is a lot to learn here just to keep up to date!

YES, this is exactly what I wanted to see!

I would call it:

1. sales: wholesale, retail, mail order, Internet

2. promotion, public relations, advertising

3. manufacturing, packaging, printing, tee shirts and matchbooks

4. publishing, artists'/producers'/indi labels' rights issues, international issues

5. new/old venues for music

There also needs to be some way to inspire "outside the box" thinking because our future lies in finding some end-runs around Wall Street. Most of the innovative music of the past 100 years was born under Wall Street's radar and we need to be charting exactly that territory.

I'm also don't buy that there have been nearly as many changes as I keep reading about. The music business has pretty much always been a case of the blind man trying to explain an elephant. Every week we read some new take on the details in press releases from people who clearly don't understand the basics.

I don't know if we're better off charting that territory, or creating new territory ourselves. Charting it seems to me a lot of work and time spent on something that ultimately may be bullied by the major label regimes. These guys already have their ear to the ground. To end-run around that, put yourself in a hover craft and let them listen to the ground all they want. The elephant can't crush the sparrow.
