Nice scoop, Brock! Thanks to you, I now have a free VST compatible convolution processor! I had messed around with Acoustic Mirror before and thought is was pretty cool, but never got into it since I use Cubase and Acoustic Mirror is a DirectX plug. Now everyone join in... "Thank you Mr. Brock!"

you are very welcome, but the real thanks goes to Christian Knufinke. This man has developed this plug in his free time over quite a while now. The effort cannot have been anything less than a staggering labor of love and the countless hours and effort show with this latest release. As has been stated on other forums by other people I wish he would open up a paypal tipjar at the very least.

If using this plug with Nuendo 2.x make sure and download the latest update as it fixes some issues concerning PDC and higher latency plugs such as SIR.

For those of you familiar with SIR you are going to be happy campers. For those of you that are not and are checking it out for the first time please prepare a clean set of shorts...

as is stated in the SIR site http://www.noisevault.com is a friendly community of convolution users who share free impulse responses amongst themselves. Feel free to dive in.

I'm a Samplitude user but have not upgraded to 7.x yet so SIR gives me realtime convolution to use on inserts... Enjoy...

Damn straight Cap'n! Been having a lot of fun convolving all kinds of sounds with vocal tracks and what not. I found that reversing a short snare and convolving it with a lead vocal gives and interesting 'ghosting' effect. I'm sure there are many more tricks to be discovered. Anyone know any nice tricks?

well... this might not be nice... it can be a little naughty in fact...

but try taking odd waves and throwing them in as impulses... Sometimes usuable. sometimes unusable.

I once put in a couple of clicks from a click track and used it on a piano. funky dude...

kinda a weird pulsing sound with a tinge of aluminum.

Is this the promised upgrade to help reduce CPU strain? I know that the "older" SIR brought my poor PIII 1GHz to its knees, and was basically unusable in Cubase SX2...

Use a claps sample as an impulse and use on a snare. Phat!

I have a UAD card and noticed that if you insert a UAD delay compensator on an output with a value of 2 plugs, then SIR is "rockin like Dokken". So just remember, a value of 2 plugs with the UAD compensator works for SIR.
Does SIR not rule??

This would be a first for me. I'm not sure where to start....so many impulses!

So what exactly will the delay comp on the UAD-1 do?

Man! that's a great tip, thanks for sharing. This is for the latest version of SIR I'm assuming (they reduced the latency now to 8960 samples... I think previously it was in the 12,600 sample mark but I can't remember the exact number. It's out there in the Nuendo forums if someone just has to know...).

One more reason I wish I had the UAD...

If you are using a program that supports full delay compensation (on buses included) then this will not be neccessary. (I believe that's Samplitude 7.x, Nuendo 2.x, Cubase SX 2.x, Logic (not sure what version number), and Sonar (does Sonar support latency compensation on buses?).

Not sure about Digital Performer...

does it work with 24 bit impulses? Or does only Samplitude do this?

actually samplitude wants to see either 32bit or 16 bit impulses...

so it is neccessary to convert any IR's you have to 16 or 32 to use with Samplitude.

SIR is happy with 24bit impulses so any you have at that bit rate should be fine...

When converting impulses for Samplitude there is no loss of quality when you move from 16 or 24bit to 32bit...
