My Amd K6-400 is about to get thrown out,its been driving me crazy with ipf errors
I need a new system...record mostly to a Yamaha AW4416 and have been using PC for Reason and Acid.Currently running Windows 98se,Maudio 24/96 soundcard,20gig IBM 7200rpm HD,cable internet,Cirrus logic video card.
I'm thinking Amd Tbird 1.2 ghz or so and a nice mobo(?Fic,Asus,etc)256 Ram(or more)
Any opinions?
Don't really need a screamer just a stable system (is this possible with Win98? :) that i can upgrade a few more times hopefully.Would like to keep around 400-500$

I'll tell you your best bet...Win2k..XP is nice but still buggy in certain departments and too many tweaks to be done! Win98SE is past news..move over bacon..here comes something leaner!! lol
AMDs are nice..just stay away from AMD based chipsets..going with Via chipsets can be scary too but you just have to make sure you have the latest 4in1 drivers. the Via KT266 or even the ViaKT133 arent too bad..as long as you configure your system properly you shouldnt have any worries! Mainboards are around 150 or so and processors..well, havent priced AMD's in a bit..
check out pricewatch.com...great way to determine and buy your parts cheaper than buying them at stores...Stick with Asus..I cant stress that enough..some people go with Tyan or Tiger..but to me those boards are put together cheap..just my $.02 worth..
