NPR Article on Making a Hit Song

Submitted by dvdhawk on Fri, 07/01/2011 - 22:46

Even with the changes in the way music is sold /distributed, some things haven't changed since Alan Freed was "spinnin' the platters that matter" in the 50's according to this NPR article I just read:

http://www.npr.org/…"]How Much Does It Cost To Make A Hit Song?[/]="http://www.npr.org/…"]How Much Does It Cost To Make A Hit Song?[/]

Of course 'payola' is illegal and doesn't exist - but "Treating the radio guys nice." and envelopes full of cash aren't even closely guarded secrets.

Enjoy.

This is why the pop chart is full of sh1te. Puerile songs get played constantly. This is for one artist (and I use the term lightly) only, there are at least another ten that get the same treatment. It's ridiculous really, there are genuinely talented musicians out there not getting a look in because of this payola thing. The music channels on TV are exactly the same. Depressing :(

Thanks for the link
Cheers
