Here is a quick rundown of my setup:

I had the monitors hooked up to the soundcard in my computer using a 1/4" stereo cable with a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter. The other end of the cable is two mono 1/4" ends. This worked ok, but I don't want to use the computer soundcard as it causes severe latency. I just went out and blew $90 on two 10 ft Mogami Gold TRS-TRS cables. I thought that I could use these and analog outputs 1 & 2 on the Layla, but I only can get one channel working at a time. I use Sonar 3 and you can only (as far as I see) select one output at a time. So is there anything I can do to setup my system differently? I was thinking maybe if I have to, buy a 8 channel mixer and use that to connect the monitors. I could also use it for some of the recording I do as right now I only have a 2 channel tube preamp. Any thoughts or suggestions?

In otherwords...you want to be able to hear playback from the M-Audio card, and the Layla, at the same time, through the same monitors?
If this is what your goal I'd suggest you settle for using just one soundcard...having two different ones on the same system can lead a world of confusion.
Your Layla should be the most flexible one to use, since has the most ins and outs.
Those newly-bought TRS cables connected to the first two outs on the Layla (I'd guess out 1 going to the left monitor, and out 2 going to the right monitor) should work without incident.
If only one of the outputs on the Layla can be heard check that you have the stereo output balance centered, and the volumes on both Layla outputs turned up, and/or enabled, in Layla's proprietary software control panel application.
I'm not familiar with how Sonar works, so I don't know if it supports playing back more than one set of stereo outputs at a time, or not...I think some programs do...and some don't.
