Hi all
i am really having some quality issues here between 2 different set ups, and the one i thought would be much better isn't.
Real simple. I have been runing a taylor 314e direct into a 2480, touch of comp and to a track. Sounds really great, clear and crisp.
44.1/16bit
I take that same taylor and run it inot an Avalon M5, RME 800 fireface, into MAC G5 1.8 dual, 3 gigs ram, Cubase SX 3, touch of comp with a UAD 1176 studio card and onto a track. Sounds muted and dead for the most part. checked my levels and they are hot input and out put.
what can i possibly be missing here in the MAC/Cubase set up?
the reason i am upset is i had committed myself to my MAC and Cubase and purchased the M5 and RME 800 to further afford myself a great acoustic and vocal sound (mst of my music is acoustic based) and was in the process of selling the 2480.
anyway anything else i can do or check?i even have the WAVES native pak and have tried its comp and EQ and reverb and in the end i get an OK sound that is still of less quality than the slightly comp'd 2480 track?
thanks much for any help. i was told time and again, not at this forum that my MAC set up was the way to go and would be far better than the roland 2480. i am not trying to bash anything, i am just trying to get myself used to this new studio i have with the MAC and tell myself i CAN get a better sound?
thanks

If your guitar has an onboard eq check that first if your going direct. I believe the RME has a few Hi-Z instrument inputs...plug straight into that no comp no effects just a dry signal. On playback if thats any better than what you were getting then it worked, and then start adding the pre's and comps back into the signal chain.
are you doing the same settings? same amount of compression and
