Recording lag using Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop

Hi!

I'm trying to record multiple tracks (guitar, vocals) at different times and mix them together using Audacity.

There seems to be a time delay in the recordings somewhere between the mic, the mixer, and my computer, and I have a feeling it is the computer. This delay is making recordings difficult to line up in time together.

Here's what i'm using:

Behringer Xenyx 1222FX mixer
Behringer Super Cardioid XM18005 mic
Ibanez electric/acoustic
Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with Windows Vista with service pack 2
Audacity

Anyone had a similar problem with a Dell inspiron 1525? How did you fix it?

Thanks!

Which version of Audacity are you using? Versions prior to the 1.3.x betas do not have latency compensation during tracking - the new tracks will lag the previously-recorded tracks by several tenths of a second, depending on the settings of your I/O buffers.

You should consider investing in better DAW software. Try Reaper - it's very low cost and has the latency compensation you are looking for in a formally released version.
