I was planning on buying one of each, but now I'm wondering how dramatic the difference is between them. I get the impression that the RNLA is just a more colorful version of the RNC, but maybe I'm wrong. Any thoughts?
To be very very specific, both units are Stereo OR Mono, but not Dual Mono...
To answer your question, yes the RNLA is more colorful than the RNC. But don't expect 5% THD, it's less than 3%. Both compressors are ridiculously inexpensive. Go Mark! 8-)
I know the RNC is unbalanced in and out.
And the RNLA is unbalanced in and balanced out.
Is there any trouble if I plug a unbalanced cable to the outputs of the RNLA?
I have to say that I already have a RNC andplan to buy a RNLA very very soon.
Currently I use an unbalanced octopair to plug the RNC to my soundcard (right now, I only use 4 of 8 ). So guess what...I plan to use my full unbalanced octopair to plug to my soundcard.
Is this possible about unbalanced cable to the balanced outputs???
You will have to modify/ make some cables though. Just make sure that the shield wire is disconnected at the unbalanced end, just leave it floating, and the two signal wires hook up the the tip and sleeve.
Or you could check out rane's website for a hook-up chart and a better explanation than mine.

There's that, plus the fact that the RNC is STEREO and the RNLA
