I should already know this, but . .

Is there a simple test to check if my outboard gear is wired correctly...if the signal is balanced or not?. without checking every cable individually?
Would it be apparent sonicly?

For example, I have several synths (unbalanced) going to a submixer, (before entering my soundcard), and I think the submixer is supposed to "balance" the signal upon leaving it, but I want to check.
I do have a multimeter, if that helps.

While I have my output cables and multimeter handy, are there any other readings I can take? like impeadance, or signal level?
