most of the time studio headphones are used in the studio. they are more accurate (less coloured) than regular headphones.
you can use them correctly by plugging them in and putting them over your ears.when you press play you will hear the music in your head as though the sound was coming out of the speakers. no one elee in the room will be able to hear it though.
be careful not to play the music too loud or you can go deaf.

They are for listening to the mix while you record new tracks (overdub)
That way you don't get feedback trying to listen to your speakers and record at the same time....
At least thats why studios use them...
if you've ever seen musicians recording in a recording studio that's what they do...
