Hey All,

We have been purchasing equipment now for 2 years because we want to be able to do a "project"!

I play drums and sing and my wife sings. We know plenty of good to excellent musicians and singers in our area. These are people who are performing, recording and have recorded. Our genre is Gospel Music and our taste in gospel runs to the top 10 artists.

As I have mentioned, we started years ago with the idea of buying and learning as we go. So, now at this point we have just about everything in place. We want opinions and recommendations about our equipment purchases and our capabilities with them.

Below, I have listed the equipment that we have and our questions are:

How far can we go with what we have?
What recommendations do you have for equipment upgrades?
What will the recommendations/upgrade provide for us?

We appreciate any and all information as it will only make us better and our future projects sound good!

BTW, I think posting messages in multiple forums is discouraged.

You have a very nice studio setup which should be adequate for what you want to do. Assuming you've got some EQ, reverb, and compression plugins, you're software needs are met.

For the drums, you'll need more mics. At the very basics, grab a couple more sm57's (depending on how many toms you have), something like an Audix d6 for the kick, and a couple of pencil mics (i.e. MXL 603, S.P. C4) for overheads. How many mic pres does your 001 have? If you need more you can grab a Behringer ada8000 on the cheap, or the M-Audio Octane for a bit more.

For vocals, you may want to think about a more capable preamp. Or, perhaps a full channel strip. Something like the presonus Eureka or something from the Focusrite platinum line.

These are all just suggestions, and there are tons of models to choose from. Hope that helps.

I'm rather new to this "forum" setup and apologize if I stepped on any toes.

Secondly, I really appreciate the honest opinions and the guidance I can get from forums like this. When we purchased the Digi 001, it was considered the industry standard and the "way-to-go". It's now a little unsettling to know that there are other platforms that are:
1. easier to use
2. hav more features
3. equal or better performance
4. gaining industry-standard acceptance.

So, to the "recording.org" forum community at large, I appreciate any and all information as our project strives to produce the quality of music that we have in our hearts.
