Hello to all Recording.org members. I am a real novice at recording. Two years ago, I agonized for months with Cubase LE4 and a PreSonus firebox to record exactly one song. The results were actually not bad, but the process was such agony I stepped away for a long time.
In any event, I would like to start simple recording again, and just tried to hook up my PreSonus Firebox, and it will not connect. I had frequent unexplained disconnections the last time I was using it, and now I am convinced that my Firebox or the software is flawed. I need a recommendation for a similar functioning device (two channel audio interface with soundcard) that works in a similar way.
I would imagine things have changed a bit in the last two years, and frankly, I no longer have the brain power to research like mad, so I would be very grateful for the advice of others for a simple to connect, simple to use, and reliable unit.

Are you sure the Firebox is dead? Has anything changed on your computer? Have you tried downloading the latest drivers and firmware?
Also try a different firewire cable!

Thanks for the replies. I tried downloading the latest software, and it worked! Mind you, I think I might still want to switch to something else at some point. I do think the Firebox is a bit noisy, as my quick tests indicate more hiss than one might want, but I will certainly use the Firebox for a while to get some feeling back for recording. I forgot everything I had learned. Thanks again.

I'm guessing the Firebox has more clean gain before hiss than your microphone. Turn down the mic and move it closer if need be.

When shopping for an interface, I considered the Firebox, amonst others. I ended up going with the TC Electronic Konnekt 6. It has a clean sound, versatile signal routing, good latency. For the price, it's a solid option.
Good Luck!!
