Could one hook up to a PC say 2 Saffires or other like interfaces for more inputs simultaneously ?
Not by linking them but separate firewire or usb connections to pc.
Or can 2 of the same be linked ?
I am only referring to the smaller type units less than 8 channels.

You can daisy chain two FireStudios. You can link two pci interfaces like an M-Audio Delta 44 or Delta 1010. Most will not run independently on their own firewire bus. The reason being they need to make use of the same ASIO driver.
Most interfaces cheaper than $400 are not designed to be daisy chained. If they only have 2-4 inputs it's likely that the buyer doesn't need more than two or four otherwise they would save their money for such an interface.

I was mainly focusing on the smaller 2-4 inputs ones.
And the reason I ask is that see them used for under $100-150 wondering if feesible and cost effective that's all.

I have utilized 3 different interfaces at the same time. All going into the same software (Adobe Audition & Sony Vegas). They were not daisychained but running independently on the USB buses. It worked great. The biggest problem is that you cannot monitor it properly simultaneously. You have to sum the outputs of each audio interface into an analog mixer but that too is fraught with different latencies from the output of each device. But that will truly screw up stereo timing. Maybe cool for rock 'n roll. Not necessarily cool with Symphony Orchestra & choir. Some feature pass through monitoring others don't. And that's where the problem lies. If all had passed through monitoring you would be fine for the first initial pass. But if you are playing back you're dealing with different latencies. Trying to get those straight is like trying to figure out the government and how they work.
