Any one notice the low end distortion on John Mayer's latest CD?
It sounds like it's just the drums & only the Matt Chamberlain tracks.
Chamberlain told me they used a woofer/mic to record the ultra lows
but there's a clipping sound as well it seems.
Listen to "Home Life" especially.
Just curious if anyone knows what kind of tricks they did to the drums? (Chamberlain tracks)

Is this one of those "master the CD as loud as you can" deals?

I listened to the Amazon samples. It may be the low quality samples, but there is a rhythmic snapping sound which would be consistent with a really deep sub bass that is clipping.
To me that sort of thing is ok sometimes. like if your bass distorts in the climax of a song it might give the sense that the music is so powerful there is no containing it. But, this seems like it's throughout the whole cd and was just an oversight.
