My wife and i are recording some of our songs, we have tracked most
of the instruments, and this weekend we will do vocals.
The hotel we stay in has some function rooms and we are
going to use one of them that has about a 15 ft ceiling and and some
concaved wall panels.
I am gonna try the NT1a and also use our NT5 s on either side to give me
some more options with panning and effects on the vocal tracks.
Any suggestions out there on whether the mics should all be at an equal distance from the singer or would having the NT5s at
a different distance bring better results.?
Or is this a dumb idea and can you set me straight before I do it ...

At different distances you will have phase issues - observe the 3:1 rule (one mic at 1m, means the other at 3m) which minimises the problem.
At the same distance you will have minimal difference, since the mics are probably quite similar. Not equal, but not wildly different.
Although you can always ditch the 2nd track if it causes phase issues when mixing. You can't just magic it out of thin air if you never record it...
