Mackie ProFX8 V1

Hi,

I have a Mackie ProFX8 V1.

My problem is that my MacBook just can't see it in Audacity.

Would anybody be able to help?

Many thanks.

Downloaded Reaper and Logic Pro and tried both of them, neither could see the mixer.

As a test, I hooked it up to my Windows PC, downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Mackie and installed Reaper.

Followed a YouTube on setting up devices in Reaper and it still can't see it!!

I'm thinking something wrong with the unit.

Gonna try this method and see if I can get it hooked up that way ...

With the USB connected and the Mackie turned on, does it show up as an Input or Output option in the Sound control panel of your Mac's System Preferences?

If not, it won't really matter what DAW you're running. If you haven't already, try a known working USB cable. If it's still not working, I'd agree there's probably something wrong with the Mackie's USB function.

Good luck.

The last ProFX8 that someone brought to me for investigation had a blown USB driver. It looks as though the ProFX8 may have poor protection, particularly against being plugged into a laptop (both Mac and Windows). Since the power supplies for these types of computer are usually not grounded at the mains plug, there can be a spark discharge to the first grounded piece of gear that is plugged into the laptop. If the plugged-in piece of equipment does not have discharge protection at its USB connector, it can blow the driver.
