Have you gone to the Nuendo forums to see how well people like the Houston? You might want to...I've heard mixed results..I got to see the Houston at the Namm show and it looks and fells pretty cool. I dont know what people were saying when they said it felt like a fisher price toy. I didnt get into the functionality of it too much tho
the RME card would be a great choice..very low latency, great sounding converters. If you want 16 in at once I reccomend going for the Apogee AD16. 16 channels of analog to digital converters..the RME you have to buy two of em to get that. Get a DA16 and you can take the digital out to analog if need be..

People are half an half on the unit(houston) my take is that it only can get better as it is made by steinberg... As for converters i was leaning towards the Nuendo 8 I/O and when I was referring to 16 inputs I was talking about the combination of the echo layla and the nuendo 8 i/o... Do you think the Apogee are worth the extra $$ compared to the nuendo 8 i/o? Ii don't think I need a new DAW I have no issues with performance I am more interested in complimating what I already have....

Beside that I am very computer literate..

Man...the Apogee converters are amazing sounding!! I took a Trak2 home with me(perks for working for them!!) and did some accoustic guitar and some vocal recordings and they just came alive!!! RME converters are nice indeed but they dont stand out like the Apogee does. I guess I misinterpreted your post on the total of 16 channels with the Layla! Ooops... :p
What I'm not sure if you know but you cant run the Layla and the RME card at the same time in Nuendo..you'd have to switch drivers..just making sure you know that! If you had another Echo product than you could run both of those cards together tho!
Altho with the 9652 card you could do 24 at once so why bother with the Layla at that point right?!
Then you could get the AD16 and do 16 at once thru Apogees converters...
Just some suggestions and so forth
Most people dont mind the RME converters tho

That Trak 2 unit is is nearly $4000 too much for my blood.... THanks for the info on the Layla I think will sell the Layla and the us 428 and get the RME hammerfall and look into either the Nuendo 8 I/o or or the ad16 converter from Apogee.. I want the closest sound to professional as possible...

Hey, Raticus - If you're looking at the Hammerfall, check out the RME Digiface, or possible the Multiface - just a little more, and you get a real breakout and don't have to take up a PCI slot just to have a physical place for the second board. I have a G4733 (mac),and so far I am using cubase and a controller(Tascam US-428)with success.I was thinking about upgrading to a Motu 828 and Nuendo,but after checking nuendo on my friend`s PC I realized It sucks...The graphics are horrible compared to ProTolls and almost no midi qualities...I wanted to have a firewire interface and then Digidesign came with the Mbox...I think I just have to wait and keep my "reliable" system.

Huh? You got to be kidding me!! graphics? What's that got to do with it? If the graphics sucked maybe your friends system has a terrible video card? I'm curious to know what you think of Cubase? Do the graphics suck on there too? Well, gee willickers batman...Cubase and Nuendo are made by the same friggen company!!
Your point is moot and useless here at this point in time...if you feel there is a more valid reason other than the "graphics suck" chime in...otherwise dont post here with comments like that please....
The 828..hmm, low dynamic range..no headroom..complete noise...crap converters...sorry, but I have tested that unit out(in fact just had to tech a guys Mac studio with that thing in it) and it's nothing to write home about. One good thing about it..it doesnt use a PCI slot...
